Insight Academy is a PreK-12 private school and behavior clinic located in Berea, Ohio. At the academy, students are supported by highly trained staff in all areas of behavior and education, and the program is headed by our CEO and Board Certified Behavior Analyst. In addition to traditional large-group instruction, students receive small-group instruction based on academic and behavioral assessments completed at Insight. We strive to make programs individualized to the student’s needs to create accessible educational content, utilizing an academic curriculum that meets state standards and an evidence-based behavioral and social-emotional curriculum. Our academic curriculum incorporates learning activities tailored to each student’s abilities. We offer a variety of programming that targets the academic and behavioral needs of our population of students.
Insight Academy is comprised of two unique programs: Social Emotional Learning and Intensive Needs.
Our Social Emotional Learning (SEL) program provides an integrative approach that supports the behavioral, emotional, and social development of the students we serve. We offer a unique program that incorporates the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), which allows us to use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) through a behavior analytic lens. Our SEL program consists of grades K-12 and is heavily focused on students who display significant interfering behavior due to emotional dysregulation and/or additional mental health concerns including but not limited to anxiety, depression, OCD, and ODD.
Our Intensive Needs (IN) program uses Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) therapy to work with our students in decreasing behaviors that interfere with their ability to access their academic and social environments. We teach replacement behaviors that allow students to successfully overcome barriers and more appropriately access both their academic and social environments. Our IN program is divided into the early learners (PreK-2 grade), intermediate learners (3-5 and 6-8 grade), and high school (9-12 grade). IN students generally have a 1:2 or 1:3 ratio at max. Many of our newer students begin 1:1 until their behavioral needs are met and are able to be successful in a small group with peers.
Other dynamic programming includes Project-Based Learning (PBL) and STEM, Early Intervention, and Extended School Year (ESY).
Our PBL and STEM programming create an inclusive educational environment that provides students hands-on, interactive experiences that cater to diverse learning styles and strengths. These approaches emphasize real-world problem-solving, collaboration, and creativity, which can help build confidence and engagement. Additionally, PBL and STEM often allow for personalized support and adaptability, ensuring that all students, including those with special needs, can participate meaningfully and develop critical skills.
Our Extended School Year (ESY) Summer Program goes beyond the traditional school year instruction. Extra time is often necessary for students with behavior issues as academic instruction can be disrupted when addressing behaviors in the school setting. ESY helps students overcome behavioral obstacles and better access their academic and social environments. This service can provide consistent and reinforcing behavioral support over the summer so that the student’s behaviors are well-managed when the student returns to school in the fall.
